The Children's Wish Foundation of Canada – I Wish for a New Waiter

2017 I Wish for a New Waiter Gala Welcomed Distinguised Guests

The 5th Annual I WISH FOR A NEW WAITER GALA to benefit the Children’s Wish Foundation was held on May 11 and was hosted by Ryan Jespersen.  The event raised over $135,000 which grants the wishes of the five featured wish children plus many more wishes in Alberta and NWT.

‘I Wish for a New Waiter’ had guests divided into 5 groups, each group working together on behalf of one wish child. A team of local personalities from the Edmonton community – such as Donovan Workun of CBC’s Irrelevant Show, Magician Sheldon Casavant and Quinn Phillips, Sports Anchor on Global TV – was assigned to each group but they weren’t serving food and drink; instead they encouraged table patrons to donate towards a local child’s most heartfelt wish in the form of tips for their service. Some waiters showed off a unique talent, gave a shoulder/neck massage while others created mayhem by stealing forks, charging for refills on water, and more!  They used their creativity to entertain the guests and inspire their generosity. It was a spectacular evening that featured auctions, entertainment, a lively atmosphere and the giving of a precious gift of a wish to children with life-threatening illnesses and their families.

Your support has direct impact! While it was a great party, it did not come at the expense of the children and families we serve. You can be confident that all net proceeds raised by the I Wish for a New Waiter Gala are channeled towards the Children’s Wish Foundation’s mission to grant a wish to every eligible child.

About Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada

Children’s Wish Foundation of Canada is the largest and only all-Canadian wish granting charity dedicated to granting wishes to Canadian children between the ages of 3 and 17 who are diagnosed with a life-threatening illness. For more than 30 years, Children’s Wish has worked tirelessly to grant heartfelt wishes to nearly 25,000 children and their families – that’s three wishes each and every day, all year long! The AB/NWT chapter of the Children’s Wish Foundation has granted more than 2,000 Wishes and estimates 130 Wishes will be granted this year.

Children’s Wish has chapter offices and professional staff in every province, and each wish family is assigned a dedicated Wish Coordinator who is able to personally and carefully structure each heartfelt wish experience to meet the particular needs of the child and their family. Travel wishes include all siblings 21 years and under living in the same household, and families travel worry-free thanks to exclusive Blue Cross insurance.

Our newly expanded reach, which includes children diagnosed with a serious neurological or genetic illness, means continued strong wish referral support through our medical community. Wish referrals continue to increase year over year, and we are proud to maintain our ‘no waiting list’ policy, thanks to our generous donors.
